Police are appealing to members of the public to help identify the body of a kayaker who was found at Sandown Bay on Friday.
A multi-agency search and rescue operation was launched on Friday evening involving HM Coastguard, Police, the RNLI and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat. At 19:20 a body was found in a kayak on the shore at Yaverland Beach.
Despite initial enquiries, Police have been unable to identify the deceased. The man, who is said to be in his mid-20s to mid-30s, was last seen at Brighton Canoes in Newhaven, Sussex at around 16:00 last Tuesday (8th September). He is believed to have had an Irish accent.
The man is described as:
– Approximately mid 20s – mid 30s
– Blue Eyes
– Dark hair
– Nice teeth
– He was described as ‘well built’ and was wearing beige shorts and a blue zip-up jacket
– The kayak was a yellow and black ‘blow up’ Sevylor Conrad, similar to the one pictured
The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to try to establish the circumstances.
