Police Hunt Hit and Run Driver after Man left for Dead


Roads Policing officers from Hampshire Constabulary have closed a road after serious road traffic collision on the A3057 Charlton Road in Andover this morning. The collision involving a vehicle and pedal cyclist happened just before 1am this morning. Officers from the road death investigation team are at the scene working with specialists from the collision investigation team. Police are hunting the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after hitting the 46-year-old man, who was found lying in the road. Police are appealing for witnesses and help in trying to trace the vehicle that failed to stop in the vicinity of the Folly Roundabout, Redon Way, Andover at around 12.45am this morning. The vehicle is likely to have sustained damage to it
The cyclist was rushed to Southampton  General Hospital with life changing injuries.

Local traffic diversion  have been set up as Traffic cannot access the Folly Roundabout from Charlton Road Eastbound.

Police have spent the morning examining the scene and a red pedal cycle  that was left in the gutter.

Sergeant Adrienne Jerram, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The victim has been left in an extremely critical condition in hospital and his family are with him at his bedside.

“We need to trace the vehicle that hit him and the driver as soon as possible. I’m now appealing for help from the public in tracing the vehicle.

“If you have any information about what happened or become aware of any vehicle that has suddenly obtained some damage since last night please get in contact with us.”

Police are asking for drivers to seek alternative routes and to allow extra time for their journeys.
