CCTV image released following robbery at HSBC in Hedge End

Police investigating a robbery at HSBC in Hedge End have released a CCTV image of the cars involved.

The CCTV shows a white Audi A3 and a dark grey Vauxall Astra heading towards the bank on Lower Northam Road, just before 10.30am yesterday.

Shortly after this the Vauxhall Astra drove into the bank, causing significant damage to the exterior.

One man got out of the car and was joined by two other men who were stood by the bank. All three entered the building together.

They left a few minutes later having stolen cash from behind the till and were then seen to get into a white Audi A3, leaving the Vauxall Astra at the scene.

The white Audi had a 15 plate and left in the direction of the roundabout at the end of Lower Northam Road.

The men are described as white and wearing balaclavas.

Detective Sergeant Claire Shawley said: “This happened mid-morning when there were lots of people in Hedge End village, so there are a lot of potential witnesses.

“We want to speak to anyone who saw these cars prior to the incident and to anyone who saw the white Audi A3 afterwards.

“We also know that some witnesses at the scene took photographs and filmed it on their mobile phones, so we would appeal to those people to contact us as this could prove to be vital evidence in this investigation.”

Officers have also released an image of a steel beer barrel that was left at the scene.

DS Shawley added: “We believe that this barrel may have been stolen and would like to hear from anyone who has had one like this taken recently.

“It is quite distinctive, with a white and two blue stripes round the middle of it.”

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Detective Constable Steve Roman on 101, quoting 44160121859, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
