Almost £5,000 was raised for charity by local Firefighters yesterday after they embarked on the Herculean task of carrying a 10.5 metre ladder from Horndean to Gunwharf.

The brave group spent their Saturday making the 13-mile trek, in full kit, to raise much needed funds for FFC - FOOTBALL FOR CANCER and The Fire Fighters Charity.

£2,394 was raised in bucket collections throughout the day, which has been matched by Barclays UK, bringing the grand total to £4,788.

The challenge set-off at 10am from Horndean Fire Station with the group receiving a warm welcome from local residents throughout the 13-mile route, which finally finish at Gunwharf Quays.
