Hampshire Roads Policing (RPU) are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on Bridge Road, Woolston, Southampton.
A Women been rushed to Southampton General hospital and is currently fighting for her life following the collision with large goods vehicle (LGV).
Emergency services were called to the scene at 12.20pm to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian
The road is currently closed whilst accident investigation works takes place and is likely to remain closed for a number of hours.
Drivers are asked to avoid area and seek alternative routes.
Local diversion have been put in place.
Blue Star and City Buses have advised that buses in and around the area maybe effected.
Shocked Witnesses speaking at the scene said that they heard all the sirens and came down from the flat that they live above after hearing loud breaking noises I didn't think anything about it until the emergency services turned up.. You could see the driver was trying to do everything he could to stop. I came down stairs with my boyfriend to find out what had happened. A woman in her fifties was stood at the crossing with an other man, the light was on green and the traffic was moving. The woman just stepped out into the road. The emergency services got here very quickly,Police Fire and Paramedics.They had move the lorry to free the woman who was trapped. Paramedics quickly put the woman into the back of the ambulance, they where trying to work on her I could see that they where giving her CPR. It didn't look good.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said : The fire service sent one appliance from Botley for scene safety."
