A man is fighting for his life following a crash on the A31 this lunchtime.
Police closed the road for nearly three hours and the man was Airlifted by the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to the Southampton General with changing injuries believed to be a serious brain and head injury.
The 20-year-old man was treated at the scene before being flown to hospital.
Crash scene investigators and accident specialists spent the afternoon examining the road and the vehicle than end up in a ditch at the side of the A31
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 11.23am to a single car road traffic collision where the car had gone off the road.
“We sent a rapid response vehicle, two ambulances, three hazardous area response teams and the air ambulance.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Tom Hall said: “We were called out at just after 11.25 to Malwood Farm in Lyndhurst Road to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle that has left the road. We sent two appliances from Lyndhurst and One from Redbridge. No one was trapped in the vehicle. Crews made the scene safe whilst Paramedics treated the man and the woman.
