Lucky Escape For Shoppers After Car Careers Into Co-op

Shoppers had a lucky escape after a car crashed into the local Co-op on Winter Road in Southsea today(Friday).

Emergency services were called to an incident involving a single vehicle in Winter Road just after 1.30pm this afternoon.
Fire crews from Southsea attended the incident along with police and paramedics.Police closed off a section of Winter Road whilst Fire fighters made the scene safe.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said they carried out scene safety work whilst the driver was being treated by paramedics and the section of Winter Road and Empshott Road was closed by police.

Local residents said they where outside in their garden putting out some washing and heard a car revving and then a loud bang. At first I thought it was a car back firing, I went out the front of my house thinking nothing of it to go get some milk and the car had crashed into the entrance of the shop.

Fire crews tried to getting a couple of people out of the car.
From what I could see,the car had gone straight into the front door.
It looked like there was a driver and a front passenger.
