Man Arrested after Arson outside Portsmouth Guildhall

Emergency Services were called to Guildhall Square in Portsmouth this evening after a fire was deliberately started during a public order incident.

The incident happened just before 11pm Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire  involving a  large pile of rubbish bags.

Police officers also attended the incident after threats were made to throw a young female on to the fire after she attempted to extinguish it.

Bystanders  have said they  saw a   man set fire to a load of rubbish bags in the middle of Guildhall Square. The man than started to  threatened  and to set  fire to a female when she tried to put it out, the man  then poured alcohol on the fire to increase the inferno.”

The man then made  further threats to both burn down buildings in Guildhall Walk

One man has been arrested by Police.  He has been taken to Portsmouth Central Police Station and faces being questioned  on a  number of  matters
