100 tonnes of rubbish still alight at Biffa Recycling Centre in Marchwood


Twenty four hours after a fire broke out at the Biffa recycling centre in Marchwood fire fighter continue to tackle the blaze.

Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus have been driving diggers with a large bucket on the end into the smothering building to  remove the recycled commercial waste.

Large plumes of smoke are still billowing from windows and openings made by fire crews as the mass operation continues at the waste Services site.

As first reported more than 100 emergency services personnel along with 10 pumping appliances two aerial ladder platforms and a number of water carriers were called to the site when 140 tonnes of household waste caught fire just after 12pm on Monday. Overnight crews have removed some 100 tonnes of burning waste and crews. remain at the site. tackling the blaze.
