A 19 year old man has been arrested following a knife attack that has left a female dead and up to five people injured in Russell Square, central London. The incident took outside the Imperial Hotel, in Southampton Row.
Police Tasered the suspect in what they say is possibly a terror attack.
The suspect was tasered by armed Police and arrested at 11:39pm by police.
The man is believed to have mental health issues say Police.
The man has been taken to hospital by ambulance and is under armed guard by Police.
One female in her 60’s was treated by paramedics at the scene but was pronounced dead not long after. Russell Square is just one road away from Tavistock Square, where a bus exploded in 7/7 London terror attack.
The road has been cordoned off as police continue to investigate.
One person who wished to remain anonymous said: “I saw two men with Middle Eastern descent acting suspiciously outside the Imperial Hotel, on Southampton Row.
“One man made off on a motorbike down the wrong side of the road with the other man heading in a different direction.”
A spokesman from the Met Police Said :
Police were called at 22:33 hours on Wednesday, 3 August to reports of a man seen in possession of a knife injuring people at Russell Square, WC1.
Officers attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service.
Up to six people were found injured at the location.
A female (no further details) was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
We await an update on the condition of the other persons injured and details of any other injuries.
A man was arrested at 22:39 hours and a Taser was discharged by one of the arresting officers.
Additional police units have been deployed to the area to provide reassurance.
