Travellers in Cosham who have been told to leave have said that they are going anyway due to the British weather.
The travellers who have 18 caravans and 20 cars, including a Bentley and Mercedes, between them set up home in the car park of Lynx House at around 8pm last night (29th November).
Police have visited the site in Northern Road and are working with Portsmouth City Council to issue an eviction notice. The group told them they they were leaving on Friday.
A spokesperson from Portsmouth City Council said: “We are undertaking appropriate procedures within the legal framework for responding to incursions on Council land, to ensure the caravans and vehicles leave the site at Spectrum.
“We are working with police colleagues from the Safer Neighbourhood team, who are also aware of the current situation.
“The occupants have been provided with bin bags, and arrangements are in place for the removal of rubbish on a regular basis as are patrols of the site, including over the weekend
However, it isn’t an eviction notice that will force them to leave; the group say that they are returning to Sweden and France to escape the British winter and say that they are planning to leave tomorrow anyway.
