Officers investigating a firearms incident which has left a 34 year-old man in hospital with a serious head injury are renewing their appeal for information.

The victim remains in hospital in a serious condition following the attempted murder which happened around 12.50am on Monday, February 13, on Athena Avenue.

Officers, including armed police, arrested a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder at an address on High Lawn Way, Havant, at around 2.25am on the same morning in relation to their investigation. Both have been bailed until April 28 pending further enquiries.
The 34-year-old Crookhorn man remains in a serious condition at Southampton General Hospital after being shot in the early hours of Monday morning.

Jamie Sibley, named by locals as a big time drug dealer, was hit with shotgun pellets and five remain lodged in his brain.

Sibley, originally from Gosport, moved to the Athena Avenue flat he was attacked in after being released from prison, for various shoplifting offences, at the end of 2014. A Crookhorn neighbour said, that he has "blighted" their lives ever since.

"“I heard the shot ring out after the pair turned up at the property in the early hours, they then fled,” the neighbour, who has asked not to be named for obvious reasons, said.

"The woman is always coming around to the property to score drugs. He has blighted an otherwise quiet area” he added.

Police have been scouring the scenes of both the attack and three subsequent arrests with little joy.

Detective Inspector Gareth Jones said, "I’d like to thank those people who have already come forward with information to assist our investigation, however we still need anyone who saw anything suspicious which may relate to the supply of drugs in the area to contact us.

"Did you hear a gunshot on Athena Avenue shortly before 1am on Monday morning?

"Did you see what happened? We have already reviewed CCTV in the area, but does your vehicle have a dashcam? Did it record anything that may be relevant, like anyone leaving Athena Avenue in the early hours of Monday morning?

“Enquiries have been ongoing today in a number of locations including Athena Avenue and High Lawn Way, but this activity is expected to be completed this evening.'

Sibley has suffered life-changing injuries in the incident which took place just before 1am yesterday.(Monday)

As previously reported armed police swooped on an address in High Lawn Way in Leigh Park less than two hours after the shooting and arrested a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.

However, both have been bailed until 28th April, leading to speculation that police now believe they are not involved in the attack.

A third person, a 31-year-old woman, from Waterlooville, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. She remains in police custody at this time.

“Enquiries have been ongoing today in a number of locations including Athena Avenue and High Lawn Way, but this activity is expected to be completed this evening”.

Inspector David Humphries from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Understandably this incident has caused concern for local residents and the College nearby, because this type of violence is extremely rare. We’ve been carrying out house to house enquiries on Athena Avenue, Trojan Way, Apollo Drive, and Zeus Lane to provide re-assurance to people living in around 300 homes and to progress our investigation. Crookhorn remains a safe place in which to live and any issues identified by our investigation will be addressed by the Neighbourhood Policing Team. In the meantime we have increased patrols and anyone who needs advice or who has any concerns can approach any of our officers who are on patrol”.
