A car has ploughed into the side of a pub destroying a wall and causing serious structural damage in the early hours of Monday morning.
Part of Washington Road off Kingston road remains sealed off and closed to traffic due to the danger that the pub may collapse. This has been sealed off by workers from Colas working on behalf of POrtsmouth City council. The parked car smashed into the George and Dragon pub at around 3.45am today after being hit by a silver car at great speed. The force of the crash has broken both the front wheels of the green citroen that remains firmly wedged into the wall of the local popular watering hole.
The driver and passenger made off from the scene up Hanway Road. Police have been informed and are currently search for the pair using the help of a Police search Dog and the resources of the National air support helicopter
A resident who lives in a property attached said he was woken by the crash which happened just below his bedroom window.
He said: “I was woken by the skid and then there was the loud crash. I didn’t know what was going on, and I felt the building shake as it hit. It was right below my window, you wouldn’t believe that a car could cause so much damage.”
The silver vehicle has been recovered by Police contractors. It is understood that by chance that no one was seriously injured.
Police remain at the scene whilst searches continue for the outstanding couple.
