Major Delays on A22 between East Grinstead and Forest Row Following Two Vehicle Road Traffic Collision

Drivers in and around the East Grinstead and Forest Row area are facing major delays following a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a black Range Rover Sport and a white Mercedes Sprinter Van.

Both vehicles sustained major front end damage. It is understood that the Range Rover collided with the Sprinter van which then ploughed into a lampost causing the driver to be trapped in the vehicle.

Emergency services rushed to the scene. Fire crews from Forest Row, East Grinstead were supported by Lewis and the technical rescue unit from Battle.

Police locked down the small hamlet village, Forest Row, closing London Road in both directions between Priory Rd junction and Wall Hill Road.

Both West and East Sussex Fire and Rescue service used specialist extrication spreaders and cutters to remove the doors from the vehicle. A platform was also used to assist with cutting the driver’s door to free the trapped van driver from his vehicle. He has been rushed to the nearby East Grinstead hospital with a serious leg and entrapment injury. A major clear up operation is now taking pace in the village to remove both vehicles. Drivers who normally use the A22 are asked to seek alternative routes

UPDATE 1725: The damaged vehicles have since been recovered by Specialist HRS but traffic is still very slow moving in and on surrounding routes as many drivers seek alternative routes.
