Sadly we have to report that a man taken ill at Fratton Park has sadly died.
The Pompey fan who collapsed during today’s friendly match against AFC Bournemouth has died,
Portsmouth Football Club have confirmed in an official statement that a Pompey fan passed away after falling ill at Fratton Park earlier today.
The statement, just released, reads: “Portsmouth Football Club are sad to announce that a Pompey fan has passed away after falling ill at today’s match.
“The incident occurred during the half-time break and the start of the second half was delayed while he received treatment.
“Despite valiant attempts by medical staff – who were quickly on hand to administer CPR – and following transportation to QA Hospital, he was unable to be revived.
“Next of kin have been notified and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
Some fans have taken to social to pay tribute to the man : Chris Overthrow Worte:Rest in peace. The fact he died doing something he loves will be little comfort to his family but he will always be remembered by the Pompey family. Utterly tragic sometimes events like this put life into context i am glad the game continued because as a pompey fan he would have wanted this to be the case i hope that his passing will be properly marked on 5th August on the first game of the season.
