New Medical Director at the helm of QA in Portsmouth

Dr John Knighton has been appointed Medical Director of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, the organisation that runs Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

John has an impressive medical career, leading the hospital’s critical care department when the facility was rated as “Outstanding” by the CQC in their 2016 inspection. Most recently he has held the position of Associate Medical Director at the Trust. He has been a CQC Specialist Advisor for Acute Hospital inspections, and has a long held passion for improving patient safety and quality of services, championing an open and learning culture of strong multi-disciplinary team working.

Mark Nellthorp, Interim Chairman, said ‘John is a highly respected professional, with a good understanding of the challenges faced by this organisation. He embodies the strengths we need from our clinical leaders and I am confident he will be instrumental in ensuring we deliver the best for our patients’

Mark Cubbon, incoming Chief Executive, said ‘I am delighted to welcome John in to the role of Medical Director. I was fortunate enough to participate in his interview, and John was an outstanding candidate. He is the first appointment to my newly shaped Executive Team as I take up the role of Chief Executive. John Knighton has taken up the role of Medical Director with immediate effect.
