Person jumps from Building in Portsmouth

Police have closed off Buckingham Street in Portsmouth after a person is understood to have jumped from a building this afternoon. The incident happened just after 2pm on Tuesday 18th July 2017.

Roads in around the area remain closed to traffic and pedestrians whilst police carry out their investigation: Buckingham Road, which runs between Arundel Street and Paradise Street, is also shut off with Police community support officers on scene guard. They stopping people and traffic from entering an area around Arundel Street. Vehicle in the nearby NCP car park are able to exit. It is understood that the person fell from a window on the ninth floor from a Chandos Rise in Buckingham Street in the city.
Hampshire fire and rescue service have been called in with an aerial ladder platform by Police to assist with the recovery of the person who has sadly passed away. A nearby contractor used a ladder to access the flat roof to try and save the person and assisted Paramedics without success.
A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We got called to Buckingham Street after reports a person had fallen from height. We sent to the scene a paramedic and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

Hampshire Police said they were called to Buckingham Road, which runs between Arundel Street and Paradise Street, just before 2.20pm today.In a statement it said a woman’s body had been discovered on the roof a building.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the death.
