Man attacked by Armed Robbers in Southampton

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Southampton after the victim was approached by two men on a moped.

The 22-year-old victim was in Montague Avenue, Bitterne, sometime between 11.35pm and 11.45pm on Friday 4 August.

He was approached by two men on a moped – the rider, who had his face covered but was not wearing a crash helmet, and the pillion passenger, who wore a crash helmet.
The passenger asked the victim for a cigarette, and when he refused, the passenger hit him with a bat on the head.

The victim’s bag, described as a Grey Adidas man-bag containing cash, keys and other personal items, was then taken.

The offenders left on what was described as a blue and white moped.

The victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital to receive treatment to a head wound and was later discharged.

Detective Constable Donna McKay said: “Were you in the Montague Avenue area of Bitterne late on Friday 4 August?

“Do you remember seeing two people on a blue and white moped, possibly carrying a grey Adidas bag? If so, we would like to hear from you.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings, particularly if they see a moped approach with a rider and a pillion passenger.”
