Newgate Lane in Fareham by HMS Collingwood has been closed by Police following a serious four vehicle road traffic collision. Emergency services are at the scene of the incident that happened just after 10.30am. Fire crews from Fareham and Southsea are using specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof of one of the vehicle to free one of the trapped drivers. The driver injuries are not presently known. The Road has been blocked by Police at Speedfield Park. Many drivers are turning around to seek an alternative route.
Two dog that we’re travelling in the vehicle that is having its roof removed have escaped without injury. Drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes whilst the incident and the recovery of the while takes place. Traffic is reported to be at a standstill from Gosport with drivers queuing back to the Stubbington roundabout.
A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: Police were called at 10.37am to reports of a four vehicle collision near to HMS Collingwood on Newgate Lane, Fareham.
Shortly after midday the road was reopened by Police but long queues were expected for some time.
