A man this afternoon is recovery in hospital after falling Twenty Feet down a small cliff face.
A Coastguard search and rescue team from Hillhead was scramble to assist the HART team from South Central ambulance service this morning after the pensioner fell.

The man in his 60s had to be rescued after falling from the cliffs near to the Solent Breezes just east of Hillhead. It is understood that he had been out walking with a friend and a dog when the fall happened. The man injured his right leg as a result of the fall.

The man’s leg was packaged and immobilised. He was than put into a specialist stretcher and stablished by a Hart Paramedic. The Coastguard rescue team than used safety lines to lift the injured man back to the top of the cliff on the stretcher. He was than taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The National Maritime Coordination Centre at Fareham received a call from the ambulance service to reports of a person falling 20 feet over the cliff. Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team, were sent immediately to the scene to assist with the recovery of the injured man.

The casualty was discovered breathing and conscious at the base of cliff. He has been since been taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to his injuries.

A spokesman for the coastguard also gave out the following advice:
“If you are going to the coast please take care along cliffs and coastal footpaths.

“The gradient at which cliffs fall away from the paths can be deceptive and following the wet and icy weather some cliff edges may be slippery or unstable.

“If you do spot someone in difficulty along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
