Man charged with kidnap following Chatham car theft

Officers from Kent Police investigating the theft of a car in which a four-year-old child was inside have charged a man.

Solly Robinson, 31, of Rosemary Close, Chatham, has been charged with kidnap, driving a vehicle without a licence or insurance and taking a vehicle without the owners’ consent.

He was charged on Tuesday 8 May 2018 following an incident in Chatham High Street at 4.45pm on Friday 4 May 2018.

Officers received a report of the theft of the car and a child reported to be inside the vehicle at the time was then dropped off outside Chatham railway station.

A member of the public found the child safe and well and called the police who reunited the mother with the child at 5pm.

The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in Rochester Street in Chatham.

Mr Robinson appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 9 May 2018 and was remanded to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 6 June 2018.
