Emergency services are battling to free a child that's trapped in a well on the Isle of Wight this afternoon we can exclusively reveal. Firefighters from Isle of Wight fire and rescue services stationed at Shanklin, Ryde and Newport and the rescue tender from Newport have been called to the incident at the Sunset Ridge on Whitwell Road. on the outskirts of Ventnor shortly after 3.30pm Tuesday afternoon (May29th)
Paramedics from Isle of Wight ambulance service have also bee called to the incident, the condition of the child is currently unknown. It is understood that a 9 year old child is trapped 3 metres down.
Fire crews are using a rope pack to assist with the rescue of the child.
We understand that the family have only just moved into the property said a nearby neighbour. And the Child and his sister had come over to visit them.
Whitwell Road is closed between its junctions with Sheepwash Lane and Southford Lane.
Traffic is being diverted via Merryl Lane.
The fire service have advised that the child has now been recovered from the well bad is being treated by Paramedics at the scene.
It is understood that medics at the scene have as for support from Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance. A fire fighter has been lowered down on Arizona Tripod system. Twenty fire fighter and two officers are also assisting at the scene said Geoff Walls from Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue It is understood that the child fell down the well whilst playing a game of hide and seek with his sister.
The young child has been loaded on to a scoop stretcher and has been loaded into the air ambulance with his mum who is now going to be flown to Southampton General hospital.
