A serious collision involving a car and motorcycle has closed the M27 motorway westbound from junction 9 at Park Gate.

The westbound carriageway of the motorway between Junction 9 and Junction 8 has also been closed due to the collision.

A diversion has been put in place for traffic to use the A27 and A3024, to leave at Junction 9 and return at Junction 8 following the hollow square symbol.

Hampshire Constabulary Roads policing officers from Havant and Highways England are currently dealing with the collision that is involved a car and a motorcycle .

Police are beginning to turn the traffic that is trapped in closure around to exit the motorway.

Drivers are being advised to stay in there vehicles and awaits instructions from Police or Highways officers.

A full collision investigation as been launched and the closure is likely to remain in place for a number of hours.

Hampshire police are appealing for any witnessed or anyone who may have dash cam footage to contact them on 101 quoting ref 818:20/05.

Update:1.13am The westbound carriage way is currently closed and is likely to remain that way for several hours possibly into the start of the morning rush.

Police have yet to release any further details on the condition of the rider. Given the length of closure The rider is likely to have suffered serious life changing injuries. Officers have said that they are aiming to have the road reopened by 5am.
