Schoolboy found with BB gun at Isle of Wight Primary School

A schoolboy has been found in possession of a BB gun at an Isle of Wight school we can reveal.

The unnamed Year six schoolboy who attends Broadlea Primary School in Lake was found with the gun on Tuesday after bringing it into school

A letter has been sent home to the parent of pupils who attend to assure them that the matter was dealt with swiftly and appropriately.

Headteacher Sharon Freeley has written to parents to say that an ‘inappropriate item’ was discovered when a Year 6 pupil brought it into school. That inappropriate item is understood to be a BB gun – something that could easily be mistaken for a real firearm.

The incident is said to have been dealt with ‘swiftly and appropriately’ and parents are being reassured that the school continues to be a safe environment for all pupils.

A 10-year-old girl is understood to have been hurt as a result of the incident. The school have refused to expand or comment any further

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has today confirmed:

“An event occurred on 4th June 2019 involving a child bringing an inappropriate item into Broadlea school.

“Upon discovery of the item, the matter was dealt with swiftly and appropriately in line with the school behaviour policy and advice from the local authority and other outside agencies.

“In order for the school and outside authorities to investigate with proper sensitivity for those concerned, the local authority is unable to provide any further details.”
