A jilted man who doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire after being dumped by his girlfriend has been named today.
Morgan Baskett, 42, remains in a critical condition fighting for his life in hospital, doused himself in petrol and set himself into a fire ball. Customers attempted to douse the flames after an argument with a waitress known only as Michelle near the Queen’s Head pub in Chislehurst, South East London on Sunday night.
The man was treated at the scene before being rushed to a central London hospital under Police escort.
The silver VW Golf was also damaged after morgan turned himself into a human fireball.
The owner of the Mirage 2 Diner on the busy high street, risked his own life to save Morgan. He described the flames about 15ft high. We were in the diner and saw it all unfolded I ran out with a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. A number of others ran over from the pub to help.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 9pm on Sunday to reports of a man committing self-harm in High Road, Chislehurst.
“The London Ambulance Service attended and treated the man at the scene.
“He was taken to a South London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Enquiries continue.”
