Divers have today (Monday 9 December) been searching Loughborough’s Grand Union Canal as part of ongoing enquiries to locate a missing Loughborough woman.

Their deployment follows a search of the canal by specially-trained dogs over a three-day period last month.

On 10 September, 43-year-old Linda Chambers was reported missing by a concerned friend who had not seen or heard from her for some time.

After Linda was reported missing Leicestershire Police issued its first appeal asking for public help to try and find her.

Photographs that show Linda shopping in Loughborough on Saturday 13 April have since been shared, as officers continue to try and establish her whereabouts.

An appeal was also made to trace a man called Garth, who was believed to know Linda. He was identified, but police still do not know where Linda might be.

Detective Inspector Simon Boden, from Leicestershire Police’s Missing Persons Operations Team, said: “We’re continuing to keep an open mind as to Linda’s whereabouts.

“However, as searches in and around Loughborough have proved negative, our searches have naturally progressed to canal that runs through the town. Following on from the searches carried out by dogs, divers are today searching the water.

“We would still like to speak to anyone who believes they have information about Linda’s whereabouts. Any details you have, no matter how insignificant you think they might be, could help with our enquiries.”

Linda is 5ft 3ins tall, has shoulder-length brown hair and wears glasses. She is known to visit a gift shop in Churchgate, Loughborough, as well as Queens Park. She uses buses to get around but also travels on foot.
