Six engines and around 40 firefighters have been called a blaze in East London

 

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire on Brandreth Close in Beckton.

Part of the roof, the ground floor and first floors of a range of terraced houses were alight. A number of wooden sheds at the rear of the properties were also alight.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 43 calls to the blaze.

Crews were expected to remain at the scene into the evening damping down. 

Station commander Jason Oliff, who was at the scene, said: “This is a very visible fire and our control centre have taken a high volume of calls. Crews are working to bring it under control as quickly as possible.” 

The Brigade was called at 2.49pm and the fire was under control by 4.45pm. Fire crews from East Ham, Barking and Plaistow fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
