The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command continues to investigate suspected activities linked to the proscribed terrorist group, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party). Seven individuals remain in custody following their arrests on Wednesday, November 27, as part of the ongoing operation.

Arrests and Detention

The arrests, conducted at locations across London, targeted specific individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activity. The detainees include:

  • [B] A 27-year-old man
  • [C] A 31-year-old woman
  • [D] A 62-year-old man
  • [E] A 56-year-old man
  • [F] A 23-year-old man
  • [G] A 31-year-old man

All seven were detained under Section 41(1) of the Terrorism Act, 2000. A warrant of further detention was obtained today, November 28, from Westminster Magistrates’ Court, allowing police to hold the individuals in custody until Friday, November 29.

 

 

Search Operations Across London

Searches have been conducted at eight locations, with three now complete. Five searches remain underway. The police anticipate search activity will continue for several days, causing some disruption to local communities.

Acting Commander Helen Flanagan reassured the public:

“These arrests have been targeted at specific individuals suspected of being linked to terrorist activity. I want to reassure the community that our activity is being carried out to keep everyone safe from potential harm.”

Community Engagement

Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, leading local policing in Haringey, acknowledged the impact on the local Kurdish community, which has expressed concerns.

“I’m continuing to meet with Kurdish community members and I am grateful for their support and understanding during what we know is a very difficult time for them.”

Increased police patrols and ongoing meetings with community leaders, local authorities, and residents aim to maintain transparency and address concerns. The police emphasized their commitment to operational independence and public safety.
