A 62-year-old motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a collision on the A36 near Knook on Saturday has been named as Rob Best, a much-loved husband, father and adventurer from Wiltshire.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10.30am on 31 May 2025, when a car collided with three motorcycles travelling together on the A36. Despite the efforts of members of the public and emergency responders, Mr Best died at the scene from his injuries.
“He always sought the next adventure”
In a heartfelt statement released by Wiltshire Police, Rob’s family paid tribute to a man who lived life to the fullest:
“Rob was loved and adored by all who knew him. He dedicated his life to being a good husband, father, son, brother and friend. He always sought the next adventure – whether it was going up the Empire State Building for his 60th or scuba diving in Mauritius.”
At the time of the crash, Rob and a friend from his local scooter club were on their way to Normandy, France, for what was to be their next journey abroad.
“His loss will leave a hole in our hearts that will never be filled,” the tribute continued. “He had an impact on so many lives and will continue to live on in our memories.”
Community support and investigation ongoing
The family also extended their thanks to those who stopped to help Rob and his fellow riders in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the investigation into the collision remains ongoing, and have not yet disclosed further details about the other parties involved. No arrests have been reported at this time.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area for several hours on Saturday as officers carried out crash investigation work and cleared the scene.
