Family’s Lucky Escape After Tree Collapses Near Dartford Swimming Baths

 

A family on their way to a local swimming baths had a lucky escape this afternoon when a large tree collapsed across Shepherds Lane in Dartford, narrowly missing their vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:22pm near the junction with Somerset Road, blocking the westbound carriageway and forcing emergency diversions for traffic and bus routes.


Emergency Diversions

Stagecoach confirmed that Route 492 towards Sidcup is affected, with services diverted via:

  • West Hill
  • Shepherds Lane
  • Watling Street
  • Crayford Road

The Diversion Reference is D80088.


Eyewitness Account

One witness said:

“It came down out of nowhere. It just missed the car with the kids inside. Everyone was shaken but thankfully unharmed.”

Kent County Council has been alerted, and contractors are expected to attend the scene to remove the tree and assess for further hazards.


Public Safety Notice

Motorists are advised to avoid the area while clearance takes place. Delays are likely in and around West Hill and Watling Street due to displaced traffic.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
