A man has been sentenced to life behind bars for the savage murder of Irish pensioner John Mackey in London.
Frail Pensioner Followed to Death
Peter Augustine, 59, stalked the 87-year-old from Kilkenny, Ireland, to a quiet walkway near his home in Manor House, north London, last May.
In a shocking attack, Augustine beat and stamped on Mr Mackey before robbing him of his sausage and chips takeaway meal and shopping.
Victim Dies Days Later
Mr Mackey, originally from Callan, Co Kilkenny, succumbed to his injuries two days later in hospital.
Justice Served at Old Bailey
Augustine was found guilty of murder and robbery by a jury at the Old Bailey earlier this month.
On Friday, he was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 23 years to serve.
