Armando Grecu, 26, from Ilford, and Valerica Cismaru, 52, from Erith, have been caught red-handed transporting scrap metal without the legal licences earlier this year. Both faced swift justice for their illegal hauls.

Grecu Nabbed During Dartford Sting

On May 14, Grecu was stopped by officers during an Op Assist operation on Mead Road, Dartford. Found without a proper waste carrier licence, he was convicted on November 21 and slapped with a £1,121 bill. That includes a £300 fine, a £120 victim surcharge, and £701 in costs.

Cismaru Fined for Licence Lapse

Cismaru was caught earlier, on February 12, during the same enforcement drive in Barfield, Sutton at Hone. Convicted at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court on November 21, he was hit with a £420 fine for the same offence.

Council Warns Public: Check Before You Scrap

Jeremy Kite, leader of Dartford Borough Council, warned residents to be cautious. “If someone takes your scrap for disposal, it’s vital you check for a waste carrier’s licence,” he said. “A simple check protects the environment and supports legitimate local businesses.”

He added: “Op Assist remains a successful partnership between Dartford Borough Council and Kent Police. We expect more convictions like these moving forward.”

Kent Police: Environmental Crime Won’t Be Tolerated

Sergeant Molly Irwin stressed the importance of cracking down on illegal waste carriers. “These criminals damage our countryside, threaten legitimate businesses, and harm communities.”

“By taking action against offenders, we send a clear message: environmental crime will not be tolerated.”
