HMRC has gone public with a list of people and businesses caught deliberately bungling their tax returns. Those found guilty of dodging more than £25,000 in tax bills have been hit with hefty fines and public disgrace.

Shock Penalties Across East London

  • Romford Utilities Worker slapped with a £15,020 penalty for tax dodges between 2022 and 2024.
  • Ionica Marian of Shaftesbury Road got fined over £33,000 for deliberate tax errors.
  • Jay Thomas Hopkins, a roofing and cladding pro, was penalised £28,673 for huge tax blunders exceeding £43,000.
  • Linktechnix Ltd, a Rainham wholesaler, racked up a £34,612 fine for defaults on £43,265 in tax between late 2023 and early 2024.
  • Nelu Costel Rosu, a builder from Dagenham, was hit with a £40,411 penalty for dodging £64,658 in tax over six years.

Big Fines for Builders and Construction Firms

  • Essex Building Supplies Ltd was stung with a gigantic £123,705 penalty for nearly £187,000 in unpaid tax from 2020.
  • Beniamin Vasile, a steel fixer in Barking, was fined £28,697 for tax dodges worth £43,154.
  • Daryon Constructions Ltd fined £34,936 for deliberate errors on £73,940 tax between Sept 2023 and Jan 2024.
  • Bukovnia Ltd, aka Building and Finishing, hit with a colossal £258,488 penalty on £369,269 of dodged tax in 2022-2023.
  • Mtah Ltd, from East Ham, was fined £62,955 for tax errors made in early 2024.
  • Iulian Coteanu, carpenter with multiple addresses, slapped with £32,049 fine for dodging £48,376 tax over six years.

  • Izegoldwatches Ltd, jewellery seller in Beckton, fined £33,633 for tax dodges from 2023 to 2024.
  • Ovidiu Poniava, plasterer from Walthamstow, penalised £28,108 for defaults on over £43,000 tax.
  • Robina Habib Chohan, rental income pro, hit with a staggering £268,917 penalty on a £561,121 tax default over nine years.
  • Marola Expert Services Ltd, Leytonstone construction firm, fined £110,373 for £151,676 tax dodges in 2022-2023.
  • D.G.S Interiors Ltd, Ilford plasterers, penalised £39,579 on £71,963 tax discrepancies.
  • Mohammad Aktaruzzaman, property income earner in Whitechapel, fined £51,940 for tax errors spanning 2013-2021.
  • Rupinder Singh Grewal, Ilford resident, hit with £20,726 fine for tax dodges from 2018-2019 and 2020-2021.
