A reckless driver has been slammed with an eight-year jail sentence after killing his passenger in a vicious drink-driving smash. Sharuyan Sasikumar, 23, from Dagenham, Essex, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and being well over the alcohol limit behind the wheel.
Speed Demon Loses Control on High Street
The shocking crash happened on 25 September last year in Knutton’s High Street, Stoke-on-Trent. Sasikumar was racing his Toyota CH-R at around 82 mph — well over the limit — when he lost control. The car smashed into a lamppost and railings, leaving his rear-seat passenger, 32-year-old Shejuti Pasha, critically injured. She later died in hospital.
Courts Hand Down Tough Penalties
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 26 November, Sasikumar pleaded guilty to both charges. He was disqualified from driving for a whopping 11 years and four months and must pass an extended retest before hitting the roads again. Breath tests showed he blew 59µg of alcohol – almost double the legal limit of 35µg.
Sasikumar’s dangerous decisions behind the wheel have cost a life and ended his driving career for the foreseeable future.
