A 22-year-old PE teacher has been arrested for allegedly sending semi-nude pics and inappropriate videos to a 13-year-old student. Meanwhile, a married substitute teacher has been slammed with a 10-year prison sentence after paying pupils for sex.

Florida Teacher Caught Sending Lewd Material to Underage Student

Yezmar Angeanis Ramos-Figueroa was arrested on 26 November by Osceola County cops after the mother of a teenage boy reported disturbing contact with her son. The victim, a virtual student at Central Pointe Christian Academy, confirmed the teacher had sent explicit texts, videos, and semi-nude photos.

“The exchanges involved obscene material sent to a minor and inappropriate texting back and forth,” said Kim Montes, spokesperson for Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Ramos-Figueroa confessed to sending a picture and lewd texts to the boy. She’s been charged with distributing obscene material and transmitting harmful content to a minor. So far, police found no evidence of a physical relationship, but investigations are ongoing to see if other kids were targeted.

The school suspended Ramos-Figueroa immediately. At a court hearing on 28 November, the teacher was banned from internet use and ordered to avoid all contact with minors. A £10,000 bond was set, but it’s unclear if she’s out on bail.

Married Missouri Substitute Teacher Jailed for 10 Years Over Sex Charges

In a separate sickening case, Carissa Smith, 30, was handed a decade behind bars for paying students in cash and via CashApp for sex. She also gave pupils alcohol and marijuana to groom them.

Smith, a substitute in the Dixon School District, had sex with at least two students. Court documents reveal one student claimed she forced him into sexual acts. Another victim filmed a sexual act, which Smith then smashed his phone to erase evidence.

Convicted on 19 sex-related charges including rape, sodomy, sex trafficking of a child, and misconduct, Smith’s ten-year sentence highlights the severity of her crimes.

Warning Bells for Schools and Parents

  • Both schools banned the accused immediately, but questions linger over how these predators slipped through the cracks.
  • The cases expose the alarming ease with which teachers can exploit their authority, online and offline.
  • Experts warn parents and students to stay vigilant and report suspicious behaviour without delay.
  • The Florida case is complicated by the victim learning virtually, meaning the abuse happened entirely online.

Investigations Continue as Communities Reel

Florida detectives are still piecing together the full extent of Ramos-Figueroa’s misconduct, while Missouri prosecutors successfully secured convictions against Smith based on overwhelming evidence.

Both cases serve as grim reminders: trust in educators must be balanced with scrutiny, and safeguarding children should always come first.
