One Punch Kills in Brutal Harbour Street Attack

Marshall Mitchell, 35, of Ramsgate, has been locked up for nine years after a deadly one-punch assault outside a Harbour Street pub.

The unprovoked attack on Friday, 28 March 2025, left 68-year-old Jim Castle with fatal injuries. Mitchell’s single blow caused Castle to fall, hitting his head hard on the pavement.

Victim Dies After Traumatic Brain Injury

Castle was rushed to a London hospital but tragically died on 18 April 2025. A postmortem confirmed the cause of death as a traumatic brain injury sustained during the attack.

Police Track Down Suspect via CCTV

Mitchell fled the scene before emergency services arrived. Detectives used CCTV footage to identify and arrest him the very next day.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Canterbury Crown Court and was sentenced on Monday, 1 December 2025.

Detective Issues Stark Warning

“This was a senseless act of violence that cost a man his life,” said Detective Sergeant Dean Sycamore. “A single punch led to irreversible consequences, leaving a family devastated and grieving.

“I welcome the sentence handed down by the court and hope it offers some measure of justice to the victim’s loved ones. This tragic incident serves as a reminder to others: a single moment of aggression can be fatal. Think before you act.”
