One of the UK’s most challenging quiz shows, University Challenge, is making a comeback on BBC Two and iPlayer. The new series, set to air on Monday, July 17, will feature 28 student teams competing in a battle of knowledge, tackling questions on a wide range of topics, from aromatic compounds to Zeno of Citium. Taking the helm as the new host is Amol Rajan, who will bring his unique style to the iconic program.
While University Challenge has a fresh look with a new set and title sequence, the beloved format that fans have come to appreciate will remain unchanged. Viewers can anticipate fast-paced and highly competitive matches between some of the nation’s most knowledgeable students, accompanied by the familiar voice of announcer Roger Tilling. Representing universities and university colleges from Aberdeen to Southampton, the teams will include not only well-established institutions but also one of the UK’s smallest and newest universities making its debut in the competition.
Amol Rajan will become only the third person to host the main series of University Challenge in its 61-year history. As a BBC broadcaster, he is known for presenting Radio 4’s flagship Today program and hosting his prime-time interview show, Amol Rajan Interviews. Rajan’s distinctive approach will infuse the matches with energy and intensity, even in the face of the show’s most challenging questions to date.
Expressing his excitement, Amol Rajan said, “We’re back! I’m so excited to watch along with audiences and relive this wonderful series. And what a wonderful series it is, with thrilling finishes and standards as high as ever.”
Audiences can tune in to watch University Challenge on July 17 at 8:30 p.m. on BBC Two and iPlayer, immersing themselves in the intellectual battles of the competing student teams.
