A  man has been sentenced for assaulting a prison officer in HMP Woodhill, Milton Keynes.

Charlie Pearce, aged 20, of HMP Woodhill, pleaded guilty to section 20 grievous bodily harm without intent at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday 4 September.

At the same hearing he was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment that will be added to the term he is currently serving.

It is in connection with an incident on 5 September 2019 in which Pearce punched a prison officer who sustained a broken top jaw and shattered bottom jaw.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Lynda Stearman, based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a prison officer who was just doing his job.

“As a result of Pearce’s actions, the victim sustained serious jaw injuries that required surgery.

“I am satisfied that Pearce pleaded guilty and will now have to serve additional time in prison.”

Prisons Minister, Lucy Frazer QC MP, said: “Violence against our hardworking staff will never be tolerated and those who attack prison officers can expect to face the maximum possible punishment.

“We are giving our officers tools like PAVA pepper spray and body-worn cameras to make their jobs safer.”

Pearce was already serving a life sentence with a minimum of 11 years following a conviction for attempted murder and rape in February 2018
