A police dog assisted in locating an occupant of a car who attempted to hide in Dartford woodland

.

Officers were pursuing a vehicle that was being driven dangerously along the A2 towards London at speeds of up to 120mph on Sunday, July 31, 2022, around 4.30pm. The vehicle eventually came to a halt in Portman Close, and the driver fled the scene.

Following an area search and with the assistance of the National Police Air Service helicopter, PC Scott James and Police Dog Fallon determined the suspect had crossed the six live lanes of the A2 into Dartford. Police Officer Fallon led her handler to a holly tree near Rochester Way, where they discovered a suspect.

A suspected imitation firearm was also discovered in Trosley Avenue, Gravesend.

The 19-year-old Gravesend man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, stealing a vehicle, and possessing a firearm.

He has been released on bail while the investigation is ongoing.

Witnesses to the pursuit, including those with dashcam or CCTV footage, are encouraged to call the appeal line at 01474 366149 and quote reference 46/148055/22. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555111 or fill out an online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
