callous hit and run driver arrested after mowing down pedestrian in woking

A man remains in a serious condition this morning after he was mowed down whilst he was using the Pedestrian crossing on Victoria Way in Woking on Saturday evening. Paramedics treated the man at the scene for a serious head injury before rushing him to hospital.

The callous Fiat driver hit the pedestrian smashing his head against the windscreen and then made off and attempted to hide the car in a side alley.
The incident happened just after 11.40pm on Saturday evening 27th November 2016.

Horrified witnesses claim that the man was tossed in the air like a football.

Bystanders who had been out enjoying their night out have described hearing a loud bang One onlooker said, “At first we thought the car had hit the railing then when we turned around we saw the man being tossed in the air and then laying on the road. He didn’t look too good. The car just drove off and left him in a heap. The driver must have know what he had done.

“The next thing, within minutes the Police and the paramedics all turned up and started treating the man. They loaded him into an ambulance and took him off.

“There was a large amount of blood on the ground, a big patch of it.”

The suspected hit-and-run driver has been arrested by Police and is in custody at a local Police station.

One Residents who asked not the named said the man was using the traffic lights at the junction of .

Charlie Ashley who has lived in a flat above one of the shops on Victoria Road explained: “I looked through my window and I saw a man in the road, then shortly after all the emergency services and flashing lights.”

Police are keen to trace witnesses. Officers from the Serious Road Collision department spent the early hours of the morning (Sunday ) carrying out skid tests and examining a car that was taken away on a low loader, whilst other officers worked in the taped off area.

Appealing from the scene they said “We appeal to anyone to please come forward with any information that may assist the investigation. Enquiries are continuing.”

A man in his 30s from Woking has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to provide a sample.
