The high temperatures in the building made fighting the fire very hard. Crews worked very hard to contain it to the first floor. Explosive flares were removed from the building along with other flammable chemicals.
Fire fighters are using the aerial ladder platform to help to cut away at the front of the building to check that the fire has been totally extinguished and that the fixing holding the tin to building have not been damaged.

Speaking at the Scene Station manager Dave Graham said “It was a very smoky fire so they found it difficult to actually locate the seat of the fire, which they finally did inside the office space.

“[There were] very high temperatures inside because of the construction of the building and the insulation so crews worked very hard to actually get in, get out and actually get some water on the fire.”

Firefighters used high pressure ventilation to cool the interior before going in and removing hazardous material from the chandlery.

The ground floor was damaged by smoke and water but the rear premises were not damaged.

South Central Ambulance service also sent a Hazardous Area response team to the incident,
