In June 2022, cooking oil was stolen from a business in the Kennington area on two separate occasions, and the offences were later reported to the town’s Local Policing Team.
On Tuesday 5 July, officers stopped a van suspected of being involved in the crimes in Fougeres Way.
Two men in their twenties from north London were arrested on suspicion of theft and released on bail pending further investigation.
‘We advise any businesses that store cooking oil to make sure they have adequate security arrangements and that any containers are not on display to potential thieves,’ said Ashford District Commander Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes.
‘In the event of a theft, businesses should review their alarm systems and CCTV cameras, as these will not only deter thieves but also make it easier for us to recover stolen goods and identify offenders.’
‘We also recommend that areas where cooking oil is stored be well-lit and that items like wheelie bins be stored away to prevent them from being used to gain access to buildings or scale fences.’
