Police Confirm Shanklin Murder Probe after Couple Found by Paperboy

police seal off property after pensioners found in unexplained circumstances

Police have officially named the two people who died in Shanklin as previously reported
On Monday officer were called to an address in Shanklin after the paperboy
paperboy spotted a note on the front door of their property, shortly after 7am.

It said: ‘I’m sorry but do not come into the home for the two of us Irwins are dead. Please go home and tell your dad and phone the police.’
When Police attend they found the bodies of Jean Irwin (83) and John Irwin (77) at an address in Albert Road.
A second note was found by police inside the couple’s home suggesting they were both dead.

The post-mortem examination of Jean found death was from neck compression, while John died from ligature suspension.

Police are treating Jean’s death as murder and John’s death as non-suspicious at this time.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the deaths are ongoing on behalf of the coroner.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

The family, who continue to be supported by specialist officers, has asked for privacy at this very difficult time and we would urge media to respect their wishes.
