Operation Windless – More arrests made as part of Southampton murder investigation

Detectives investigating the murder of Michael Freshwater have today (Wednesday, May 4) further arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Seven arrests have now been made as part of the investigation into the murder of Michael Freshwater.

Michael’s body was found at an address in Westridge Road, Southampton just after 4.15pm on Friday, April 29.

A 26-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, April 30 and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Yesterday evening (Tuesday, May 3), police in Southampton further arrested 23-year-old woman from Southampton on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs. She has since been released and bailed until July 6.

A 24-year-old man from Southampton was arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and assisting an offender. He has since been bailed until July 6 pending further enquiries.

A 22-year-old man from Southampton was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and has since been bailed until July 5.

Ashton Singh, 26, of Westridge Road appeared before Southampton Magistrates yesterday (Tuesday, May 3) charged with perverting the course of justice and has been remanded in custody.

Detective Superintendent Becky Riggs said: “This remains an active murder investigation and we continue to encourage anyone who can assist us with our enquiries to come forward.

“We have arrested a number of people as part of this investigation in order to ascertain the exact circumstances leading up to, during and after the incident.

“We are utilising a significant amount of resources and we continue to deploy investigative tactics at every opportunity to secure evidence and get justice for Michael and his family.

“We continue to appeal for information and would like to hear from anyone who may have information surrounding this incident to contact us, in confidence. Tell us what you know.”
