young boy seriously assaulted at riverside park in southampton

Police  are appealing for information after a 12-year-old boy was seriously assaulted at Riverside Park on Manor Farm Road yesterday (Thursday, April 7) at around 8pm.

The boy was playing football with friends in the park when another teenage boy assaulted the 12-year-old causing him to become unconscious and suffer serious injuries to his face.

The boy was admitted to Southampton General Hospital with a broken jaw, where he remains awaiting surgery.

The teenage boy is described as:
White
Approximately 15-years-old
Shirt, light brown curly hair
Glasses
European accent

Officers believe this teenage boy was in the company of around five other boys, some as young as 5 or 6 years old. We believe an older man was also with them, who we would also like to trace to assist us with this investigation. He has been described as white, aged between 30 and 40 years old and wearing a black Saints football jumper.

Detective Constable Claire Ratcliffe from the Western Investigations Team said: “This young boy was playing with friends, like a lot children in the area do, when he was subjected to an unprovoked attack. We believe there were several witnesses to this incident and I am therefore appealing directly to them and the adult man described to come forward and make contact with us.

“Furthermore, if this is you described, please assist us with this investigation by making contact with us. If you have any information in relation to this incident please call us on 101 in confidence quoting 44160133027.”
