Officers discovered the firearm, a handgun, and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition as part of an intelligence-led warrant in the Challney area. Investigators also discovered a large amount of heroin.
A man in his fifties was arrested on suspicion of having a firearm and possessing a class A drug, and he was taken into custody for questioning.
"This is the latest result in our work to tackle organised crime in Bedfordshire, and I am delighted that another weapon has been safely removed from the streets," said Detective Superintendent Nick Skipworth of Bedfordshire Police's intelligence capability.
