Seven fire engines and multi-terrain vehicles responded, and crews extinguished the fire that is thought to have been 100 metres by 100 metres in size with hose reel jets, beaters, and flexi-packs.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause is unknown.
With temperatures expected to remain warm, people can help prevent grass fires by:
• Keep bonfires to a manageable size, well away from greenery and property, always supervise the burning, and avoid having one on a windy day. It is polite to notify your neighbours if you intend to have one as well.
• When using a disposal barbecue, place it on a flat, non-flammable surface, away from property and greenery, and only place it in a bin once fully cool.
Remember, if you see a grass fire, get to a safe location and call 999.
