After a trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Jacob Carroll, 27, and Jordan Davies, 26, were found guilty of murder today (Friday, July 29).
Joevester, also known as Joe by his family and friends, was discovered on Catherine Street on the morning of November 1, 2021, following a public report. A post-mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of stab wounds.
According to a witness account and CCTV evidence, Joe and his friend were targeted by the defendants as they crossed the St James estate in town around 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2021.
Carroll and Davies pursued them across the estate and onto Catherine Street, first on foot and then on mountain bikes. Joe attempted to flee but was apprehended and killed in the grounds of the former County Court building.
"Joe was a much-loved son, brother, and friend," said Senior Investigating Officer DCI Emma Knight. "Our thoughts are with them at this time as they struggle to come to terms with their loss," his family told the court, describing Joe as the bright light in their lives that had now been extinguished. "I would hope that the result today provides them with some comfort."
Carroll and Davies, both of no fixed address, will be sentenced next week at Sheffield Crown Court. Both have been placed under arrest.
