The RNLI’s Yarmouth all weather lifeboat has been called out this morning The crew was launched at just after 11.20 this morning to a distress call in Yarmouth Harbour.
The Needles Coastguard rescue have also been tasked to the same incident. A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard agency said” The UK Coastguard received a Digital selective calling alert (DSC) from a vessel in the Yarmouth Harbour area. The call came into the operations centre at Fareham at 11.27 this morning, we have sent a number of resources to the area to find the vessel. The Needles Coastguard Rescue team and the Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat have been sent ” The spokeswoman went to say this is an on going incident
UPDATE A spokeswoman for the Maritime & Coastguard Agency said: ‘The UK Coastguard received an undesignated DCS distress alert this morning (17 February) just after 11.25am from a vessel in Yarmouth Harbour area. Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Yarmouth RNLI Lifeboat were sent to the area. The vessel was found safe and the owner was contacted. The owner confirmed that nobody was in distress or at risk and the DSC was transmitted in error.’
