A shop assistant was threatened and assaulted during an robbery at a Co-op supermarket in Shanklin this evening
Hampshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that took place this evening at around around 10:30 at the Co-op supermarket on Arthurs Hill in Shanklin. Police have cordon off the store and an ambulance is treating the injured member of staff.
A Shopper who we aren’t naming said “It all happened so fast a masked man entered the shop with a crow bar I saw him hit out at the member of staff in the face he was smashing the pole on the counter he was shouting give me the money do it faster. He than lashed out hitting a staff member in the face because she was being so slow.She was bleeding from her nose there was a lot of blood.
Police have not released any details on how much cash if any has been stolen from the store.
Police want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing the man hanging around the shop, waiting inside prior to the robbery and assault taking place . The masked offender left the store and run off towards Cliff Path in Shanklin.
Police have not said if they are linking similar raid that have happened in the area.
